I´m interested in your Ad Manager (just waiting on the "not beta" version) - sounds very nice. Also I am interested in your Gallery Addon. Is there a roadmap? Can we try a beta yet?
The roadmap was initially to have a beta out a month and a half ago heh. I have other things to concentrate on at the moment including the next version of the ad manager. A lot has happened to slow me down for the time being, I hope to be back up and running at full pace in about a month. So can't give a date on when but can say it will come.
Looks like the Gallery was released ! Could you host a gallery here at http://mercenarydesign.com.au ?
If someone wants to try Simple Gallery out, I've just set up a test gallery here: http://mercenarydesign.com.au/gallery/ Every registered member is able to post media in there. (Will be deleted occasionally)
Well not having certain features just stopped me from rushing for it even tho it's mentioned they will be coming in another version but sad thing i was expecting atleast few stuffs like comment /like/alert would be included in first release .
Yup there are lot of folks waiting for this add-on including myself ! My site is full of images /reports and comments/likings /ratings so few of those features would had me going already.
This is starting to annoy me. "Simple" is in the name. There is a description explaining this is designed to be lightweight. It is a gallery for webmasters, for websites that showcase something. It is not a user gallery. It is $10! I won't get money to cover the time I have worked on this (weeks) for at least a year. A bloated gallery (one people seem to expect is easy to make at high quality in days) will take months to make. Then getting the money back I spent working on it? Years. I'm sorry but this market is proving to be far too small and expecting FAR too much. Funny though, the poor quality add-ons get much more usage. I am basically in financial trouble and have had to turn my focus back to doing custom work for clients and put all this stuff on the back burner until I can either afford to work for free again or the market increases. Bug fixes (and pagination for the gallery since I forgot) will be the only releases in the near future. If you want a full on gallery pay me what it is worth. /end rant, obviously in a bad mood
that is bad. i can understand your point, but from my site i need a little more features. maybe in the future.
It is bad that I don't have time to work basically for free so you get a gallery that is bloated enough for your uses? I'll put it this way. If someone was to hire me for a full on, bloated gallery. It would cost them $3000+. When I make it, that is how much I am LOSING in pay while I work on it and it would take a long time to get that back. The only reason I am even releasing paid add-ons is as an investment for a few years down the track when I have a lot and XenForo is a big market (I expected it to grow much faster). If I don't turn my focus to clients then I would disappear for good from here. There is one good thing from this, some clients I work at lower rates to keep rights so I can sell them. This is how the donation manager came about. Due to this, some time in the future you will see a virtual credits/shop system.
Sorry if we said something wrong . rant No we are not forcing you to do anything we are simply saying something from customers point . Yes i am myself in economic crisis too lost job last month . My forum doesn't makes penny still i am managing to buy paid add-on's to run forum . I have already invested one of your add-on ....thinking about another one ad manager. You are not distributing anything free here that's for sure . Everyone has their problems so what i am trying to say is everyone is investing something atleast don't treat us like trash here atleast we are supporting your work by investing our money too . We are not ranting here about the pricing you have added we are just trying to help you . Add the feature increase the money we will simply pay if we think that's what we are waiting for . /end rant
How am I treating you like trash? I spend time every day with personal support and due to that have added live support. What I am saying is that it isn't as simple as "add a feature" and "make more money". If it was I would do it. I am also not going to do a money grab and poorly add some features and put an unreasonable price on stuff. This gallery is designed to be exactly how it is. With a feature release to add a few extra goodies. For a small $10. It also comes with unlimited support. If providing that and holding off for a more feature rich, high quality, stable gallery for later when I have time to put in the work for it is "treating you like trash". Also, I have released free add-ons. And have many more free ones to come. Which also come with support. And I am taking over ragtek's add-ons (mostly released also for free) to support them so they don't just dissapear. If what I have been doing is "treating you like trash" then I hate to think what you think of the other developers who overprice, don't support, have low quality and charge for trivial things (additional media site support for example).
I am not complaining about price have i ? The way you replied kinda dissed me yes i understand your problem very well when it comes to coding /supporting cause i do own another company side by side with 4 people working for me and myself being gfx designer it's real hard to pay them their salary and other costs . That's fine if those features won't make for atleast few months just let us know frankly "hey i have little problems so this is lite version probably in future i can think about rest features or if i am free i will certainly do my best" . Well you can remove media stuffs add those other feature ...increase the price if you get time to work on it i will simply go ahead and see if that meets my requirement and make the payment . Oh well but case is different. Sometimes certain wording makes difference i guess you get what i meant . If i was in good shape condition i wouldn't be running around forums /crying out loud giving suggestions to devs ...ofcourse i choose custom add-on if only i had job right now to cover my bills atleast . Sorry about rant don't want to troll here and waste your day but i am still looking forward for other add-ons .
You are complaining about a product that is as designed because it doesn't have what you want. If it doesn't do what you want then don't buy it. What? I made it clear that it is a Simple gallery designed to be lightweight. With the added bonus of external videos to be honest (it was never planned at the start). Obviously I'm not in a good mood either. Lack of sleep + too much work etc. If it was up to me I would have a bloated gallery (to make sure features aren't missed), an actual good portal, a sidebar manager, about 10 free add-ons I have in my head, a virtual credits/shop system, bug tracker, project management system, a massive social networking mod, events system, articles system and so on... not exactly a short list of what I want to do :/
Why publish free addons? Focus your work on the important things. Thats an easy lesson i have learned in the last years in my business. Your time and your energy is not endless.
I only have done 2 so far. One was for a client and one was a ragtek mod. The reason for doing more is because some might interest me, I need my eyes on new code every known and again and it is a form of marketing to drive people to my paid add-ons.
Free addons expose you to customers who usually can't afford add-ons. By the quality of a coder's free add-ons, it opens them up to scraping up enough cash to buy their paid add-ons when normally, they wouldn't even consider it. Free addons get your name out faster as well. It's like the most effective form of advertisement.
