Hello Found my way over here because I love the mercGallery from over at XF. Just wondering if subcategories will be available in future? That and the ability to separate viewing permission from uploading permission are the only things I've found missing so far in using it. Great job guys!
The lite gallery that you have used will only have the features you see on it now. But with use of the lightbox. However the planned full gallery will have everything you want in a gallery. Unfortunely I can't afford to put much time into MercDesign right now so these things are still a little while away.
I have a minor release for the donation manager to do and an update for XenTrader before I can get it into beta. Was hoping to get it done by the weekend but I don't see that happening now. So hopefully first week of the new year
I've never heard of the mercgallery. What really brought me to this site is the embed videos into albums with simply a link. That sounds like an incredibly appealing feature. Will we be able to hit the like button on these vids and pics as well as comment? and the vids that automatically embed, is it using xenforo's bb media code?
The Simple Gallery will be bare minimum but still with enough features to satisfy so won't have likes or comments on items. There will be a full on feature rich gallery released that will do stuff like this and lots lots more some time in the future. The current plan is to... - get all current mods (including simple gallery) out of beta and with all planned features, except the ad manager, it will be a long term beta to add many features - make a heap of free mods and importers to help bring people here and possibly bring in some donations - create a full on shop system to use here and eventually release After that my focus will turn to a media gallery which will do everything you would expect from such a mod. It sure is.
Oh okay sounds great. Take a look at XFR User Albums and XenMedio add-ons. That's what I use currently and they do a pretty good enough job as it is. I'd rather stick with XFR User Albums because my members love to comment and like each other's pics. Your embedding option is awesome because XenMedio makes you pay $5 for each bb code media you add to the add-on.
This mod is mainly for a simple gallery for your website. So you have a gallery areas and put images/videos there and they can browse through albums. Like a gaming site gallery (what this is actually being coded for). So not for users on their profile or anything like that. The bigger featured media gallery would provide this however... although now making a gallery designed for user profiles with this same feature set, plus likes and comments (facebook pics/videos basically) sounds like it might be a good idea.
The reason I ask is because as a forum owner, I've come to realize that my main competition is Facebook. I try to bring as much facebook-like features to the forum without looking like facebook. People are attracted to facebook not so much because of it's look but because of it's features such as likes, comments, and pics and video gallery. It would be a really good idea.
Well I have always had a social mod in the back of my head basically adding a lot of facebook features to XenForo and putting emphasis on users rather than content. However if I was to do such a mod it would be way down the road.
